What Should You Know About WestJet Airlines Cancellation?

Unexpected travel disruption is never ideal, and canceling a flight on Westjet Airlines can certainly throw a wrench in your plans. Understanding the Westjet Airlines cancellation policy is necessary to know your rights and what is expected, whether you are eligible for refunds, credit or rebooking. Westjet, like all airlines, is specific guidelines that vary depending on the rent type and the cause of cancellation.

What is the WestJet Airlines cancellation policy within 24 hours of booking?

If you have just booked your flight and there has been a sudden change of heart, then you are usually in luck. According to the WestJet Airlines cancellation policy, flights can usually be canceled for full correspondence for payment of your original form within 24 hours of the original booking time. This is applied until the flight is scheduled to depart within 24 hours of the time when you booked (i.e., the same day flights, which could fee). This "24-hour rule" is a standard consumer protection measure, which offers a valuable grace period.

What are the cancellation policies of WestJet Airlines beyond 24 hours?

The cancellation policies of WestJet Airlines become finer after the initial 24-hour window and depends a lot on the fare bundle you purchased.

·         Ultrabasic rent: These are the most restrictive. If you cancel an ultrabasic fare after more than 24 hours of booking, you will not usually receive refunds or future travel credit. The funds are seized.

·         Econo, premium, and Business fare: For these fare, cancellation of more than 24 hours of booking, or for the same day travel, will usually receive a cancellation fee. The remaining amount is usually returned as a travel credit, which is valid for one year from the date of creation. The fee amount varies significantly based on your destination (e.g., Canada, within Canada, from North America/or from international destinations) and how close are you to your departure date. The fees CAD can range from $ 25-30 to CAD $ 600 or more per person.

·         Flex Fars (EconoFlex, PremiumFlex, BusinessFlex): These fares provide the most flexibility. With Econoflex, Premiumflex, and Businessflex, there is usually no cancellation fee, and the fund is returned to you (either as a travel credit for Econoflex or for the original form of payment for premiumflex and businessflex).

What if WestJet Airlines cancels your flight?

If WestJet Airlines cancels your flight, the airline has distinct obligations, usually more favorable to the passenger than a voluntary cancellation. If the cancellation of flight on WestJet Airlines is due to the reasons in their control (e.g. mechanical issues or crew deficiency), you are usually entitled to:

·         Rebooking on a flight with the next available WestJet Flight or a fellow airline.

·         Food and accommodation need to stay overnight.

·         For flights to Canada/Se/within the Air Passenger Protection Regulation (Appr) for possible financial compensation, or EU261 for flights departing from Europe, depending on the length of the delay and cancellation of delay at your final destination.

To cancel your flight or inquire about options, go to the "Manage my booking" section on the WestJet’s website or contact their customer service. Always check your specific fare rules for the most accurate information.
